{Giveaway} Ready, Set, Draw...Animals!

A year ago, Big Sis could barely draw a smiley face and a rainbow.  She still scribbled when coloring.  I was amazed over the summer when I noticed her coloring skills greatly improve.  By the time she turned five in October, I was showing her how to draw simple objects.  Now she is beginning to draw simple things on her own.

This may be my all-time favorite drawing of me.  I was 9 months pregnant, in case you can't tell.  Maybe you can see Little Sis in the drawing, too.
For a while, I had been thinking about creating a little booklet for Big Sis.  (I was thinking the little spiral-bound index cards would work well.)  In it would be some basic drawings of simple things.  Some I had already shown her, but there was so much more that I thought she could draw.  Some of the ideas I had for the booklet were a house, tree, flower, bear, fish, dog, ant, and so on.  Time went by.  I never made the booklet.  Life has been slightly complicated and chaotic for the last few months.

Then when I was visiting Peter Pauper Press, I saw Ready Set, Draw...ANIMALS!  I knew it was exactly what I wanted for Big Sis and even better than I would have created myself.  Ready, Set, Draw...ANIMALS! has step-by-step directions for each of the 18 animals.  It offers a place to trace and another place to practice.  A large drawing pad is also included!

Based Big Sis's difficulty drawing, I thought I would introduce the book to her to see if she was ready for it. (Too often I think one of the children are ready for something, but they are not.  Then that something goes unused after the introduction.)
You know what?  She did great!  Ready, Set, Draw...ANIMALS is a great gift for any young artist learning to draw.   (Since then she has also drawn her own version of a cat, applying what this taught her!)

I love the concept of this book series.  Big Sis and others like her will really benefit from such a book.  I was disappointed that the large sketch pad included as part of the book had come detached from the cardboard backing of the pad, but of course the pad and book are still usable.

Thank you, Peter Pauper Press for providing Ready, Set, Draw for me to review and for one This Simple Home reader!
