What's on Your Nightstand is how I keep track of the books I read each month.  My book choices have changed a bit this past year.  It seems that I am reading more non-fiction these days than in the past.  This month certainly reflects that.
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, by Susan Cain was an incredible book.  I listened on CD and may read it again, too.  I HIGHLY recommend it for adults, whether introvert or extrovert.  I think teachers and anyone who works with groups (large or small) would benefit from reading it.  Cain wrote an interesting book about a personality type that some (even themselves) consider boring.  If you want to understand introverts better, this is a book that you must read.  This book confirmed that I am, indeed, an introvert.  For years I thought I must not be one because I was comparing myself to my husband who is REALLY introverted.
The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.  Though my husband is a huge Lord of the Rings fan (since childhood), he did not read The Hobbit until this year.  I have never read LotR.
I decided to begin with this one, and I am glad I did.  I haven't quite finished it, but I am thoroughly enjoying the imagination of Tolkien's written word.  (Actually, I'm listening to this one as well...)  I was hoping to share it with our children, but I think some of it is too intense for our children for now.
Still Reading...
The Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens.  I tend to read in short bits of time, and that is not how this book should be read.  I had asked on Facebook for some encouragement to see if I should try to finish it, and anyone who read it said it is fully worth it.  So, I will keep going!
Everyday Talk, by John A. Younts.  This is a good book considering how our everyday talk is so important in parenting.
What Is Biblical Theology, by James M. Hamilton, Jr.  A simple book about a complicated subject.  I like it.
I'm not sure if you caught this, but according to this list, I only completed one book this month, and that was an audio book.  Blame Dickens!!
Next year I will be participating in the Reading to Know CLASSICS Book Club again!  I chose December's selection of To Kill a Mockingbird.  You don't need a blog to participate.  In fact, you can participate as little or as much as you like.  Want to join us?

I'm so glad you are keeping at A Tale of Two Cities. Relatives have hit the "pause" button on my reading but I shoudl be able to sit and finish it next week.
ReplyDeleteAnd now that Barbara AND Annette have recommended Quiet, I'm even MORE interested to read it!!
I loved A Tale of Two Cities but it's been so long since I've read it. So many classics that I need/want to pick up and visit again. Haven't heard of Everyday Talk or Biblical Theology before. I'll have to check them out.
