Bite-Size Apple "Pie"

Typically when I make dessert, it lasts our family for several days or even longer, thanks to the freezer.  Once in a while, a quick dessert is just the way to satisfy the sweet tooth though.

These mini apple "pies" certainly served the purpose!  The family enjoyed them, and Big Sister, age 6, asked when we could have them again.   (This is also the girl that opted to have old-fashioned apple pie instead of cake for her Little House birthday party.)

Using canned crescent rolls that I bought incredibly cheap, I decided to adapt this recipe to make our own sweet treat.  It's just one of my recent Pinterest attempts!
(I would suggest not allowing your mini apple pies to brown as much as in the photo above.)

Bite-Size Apple Pies
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 can refrigerated crescent rolls
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 apples, cored and cut into 8+ wedges each (peeling is optional)

In a small bowl mix sugar and cinnamon.  Set aside.  Unroll crescents on a lightly floured surface.  Divide into triangles.  Brush with melted butter.  Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture; reserve a bit of the mixture to top the "pies" with, if desired.

Dip apple pieces in butter and then sugar mixture.  Place two apple pieces on the short (opposite the point) end of the triangle.  Roll, beginning with the apple end.  Place on greased  cookie sheet or line it with parchment paper.  Brush the top of the "pies" with remaining butter and lightly sprinkle with cinnamon mixture, if desired.

Bake at 425° for 11-13 minutes, or until beginning to brown.  Serve warm.

I made these as a surprise for the children, but it is a super simple recipe that older children could even complete themselves or little ones can assist you!  Enjoy!

Update: My 6 year old made these by herself after I showed her how to make one!  Also, a preschool class recently enjoyed these.

  1. I have that one pinned, too, but haven't tried it yet. Glad to know it's good!

  2. I think the boys will especially like this! I'll probably use homemade pie crust for this one, though, only because I can't seem to find a decent deal on canned crescent rolls. :S When(if) I do, I'll stock up!

  3. My husband says "yum," when I told him this recipe. I've always had good luck with your recipes.

  4. Hope you all can try it soon! Ticia, I'm glad my recipes work well for you and your tastes!
