Freezing Blueberries {Rinsed}

It is fairly well-known that when freezing fresh blueberries, you should freeze them unrinsed.  If you have ever washed your berries first, and then froze them, they likely came out of the freezer in a giant clump.

For a lady who often bakes with them directly from the freezer and, even worse, puts them in her children's yogurt and cereal directly from the freezer, I want my blueberries washed before freezing.

Thankfully my friend told me her secret.
When you arrive home with your fresh blueberries, you can wash them.  Afterwards, just spread them to dry on paper towels.  Cover your counter or table if you need to or place them on baking sheets/pans in a single layer.  After they dry, place them in your freezer container of choice.

Then, the next time you want some frozen blueberries, you won't need to rinse them before use!

  1. I rinse mine in vinegar-water, do not dry them, but pour them onto a cookie sheet covered with waxed paper. Then I put them into the freezer for a couple of hours, just so the outside is frozen. Then you can pour them into bags or containers with no worries!
