Friday Favorite Five #17

Keeping the focus on the good and not the bad is not so easy for some of us.  Yet, it is extremely refreshing to keep my perspective positive.  (I do try to keep my blogs positive and not complaint-filled.  When I look back, I don't want to read that I was dwelling on the difficult moments instead of focusing on the blessings of being a mom of three children and wife to a great guy.)  And I appreciate really focusing on the good each Friday.

1. Sleep.  Hmm...Have you heard this before?  Little Sis is staying up a bit later at night, but allowing me to sleep later in the morning.  I feel like I'm not really dragging myself out of bed now.

2. Family.  My dad has been officially retired for over a month now!  He worked for the same factory for about forty years!  My mom's medication is helping her enough that she is close to walking normal with her fibromaylia.  My mom and stepdad also just celebrated their anniversary.

3. Opportunities.  Summer is practically here (EEK!!!) with less than a month of preschool remaining, and I have our June and July practically booked with fun.  (I don't necessarily like that idea since I really am a home-body, but it will be fun!)  We have multiple family things happening, plus swim lessons for the first time and hopefully Vacation Bible School.  But really, I will enjoy the days at home the best with our little kiddie pool.

4. Rain.  This week we have had much needed rain.  It was a dry winter and dry spring.  Finally...rain!

5. Little Women.  I just listened to it. Again.  All twenty hours.  Now that I have (almost) read Pilgrim's Progress, I enjoyed it even more.  And now I feel that I can properly read the Louisa May Alcott biography that I received for Christmas.  (I had read a few pages, and then decided I wanted Little Women fresher in my memory.

BONUS: Little Sis is into everything and going from room to room at just six months of age.  We'll call this a great thing since she is keeping me on my toes and the floor vacuumed.

Read about what others' favorites of the week are over at Living to Tell the Story.

  1. We have a week and a half left of preschool! VERY exciting. :) That's great that you've already got plans happening. Ours is very much tentative, but nothing definite planned.

Crawling babies definitely help motivate me to keep the floors cleaner. I've always wanted to create a "no shoes in the house" rule, but nobody else is up for that challenge. ;) That's awesome that Little Sis is crawling, though!

  2. Oh, summer ... I can't wait! Summers with my boys were so crazy, but lots of fun. Lots of trips to the park, the playground, and the library -- and we must have done two or three VBSes!

Have you ever seen Little Women the musical? It's great!

    Have a great week.

  3. Oh Im' envious that you are almost done with school!! I teach and we have to go until June 22nd......but then again we don't start until 3 days after Labor Day in September so....I remember the days of jam packed summers when my girls were preschoolers...now it's more like long weekend trips and day events. And my youngest found Christ at her very first VBS when she was just 6 years old so yeah for VBS programs!!!!

  4. That's how I have always liked summers, too -- mostly home but with a few fun excursions.

    Glad your mom's doing better!

Ooooh, I'll have to check into an audiobook of Little Women -- one of my best-loved stories.

  5. Hard for me to think of summer when it SNOWED all day! Granted it was a heavy wet spring snow, but it is definitely the white stuff covering my lawn. Sounds like a fun summer planned for you and your family.

Happy anniversary to your mom and stepdad. And what faithfulness on the part of your dad working at that same place for that long. Very rare in this day and age!

  6. Mmmmm, it rained here last night, too. So nice falling asleep to the sound of rain on the roof. Reading Little Women and LMA's biography sounds like a fun study! Enjoy!

  7. ha! You are finally getting some rain and we are finally getting some SUN! A much needed trade-off, I reckon.

I can't believe summer is almost here either. When the sun shines through I start to believe it though. =D
