Pizza Sauce

♥ PIZZA♥
Seriously, I could eat pizza every week, even multiple times a week. Our budget does not allow that, so I try to make pizza a couple times a month. For years I tried various recipes. Some were okay; some were good.

I finally found a great recipe for pizza dough. We have also learned that what you put on that dough matters! First, it is definitely best to use homemade pizza sauce! It is also important to shred your own mozzarella cheese. Make sure it's whole milk.

This is my easy pizza sauce. Since each pizza only needs a few tablespoons of sauce, I freeze the sauce in baggies after making a batch.
Pizza Sauce

1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt & pepper to taste

Mix together all ingredients in sauce pan. Bring mixture to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Cool before topping pizza. Use much less sauce than you think you need. You should be able to see some of your pizza dough through the sauce.

Typically, I use less than 1/2 cup of pizza sauce on each pizza, though it does depend upon size.

Freeze any leftover sauce after it has cooled completely.
I use no more than the sauce pictured here. Often I use even less.

What's your favorite pizza topping?  Mine is cheese!

  1. Sorry about the capital letters. I did NOT type them that way, but that is how they are appearing as a published post. Hmmm...
