Reading the Classics

Do you need a challenge to read some good books?  Maybe some classics?

I'd encourage you to take part in the Reading to Know Classics Book Club.  Each month a different classic book was chosen by a different person.  About half are children's books and the other half are for adults.  (I chose To Kill a Mockingbird, a long-time favorite.)  You don't need a blog to participate.  You don't even need to participate each month, just when you are able.  The link above will tell you all the books we'll be reading.

Along with that, I'll be reading The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery this month in conjuction with the book club and the L.M. Montgomery Reading Challenge.  If you are so inclined, I highly recommend Jane of Lantern Hill and Pat of Silverbush/Mitress Pat. (Linked to reviews.)  Though Anne of Green Gables is a favorite of mine, I relate to these characters even more and they are also well-loved characters.  (LMM is a bit wordy for me in Anne.  I sometimes skim...naughty, I know!)

  1. I love many classics, but probably the top three are Les Miserables, A Tale of Two Cities, and Jane Eyre.

  2. I remember my reading of Anne being slow, but I loved it. My reading of The Story Girl was even slower, but I wasn't as fond of it. I'm relieved to hear you find Montgomery a bit wordy at times. I briefly started reading The Blue Castle, and I think I'm going to like it! :)

  4. My favorite classic is probably Jane Eyre, though I'd be hard pressed to pick just one. :-)
