Bits of News

This past week was a strange one in our house.  Hurricane Sandy thankfully did not impact us much, though we were in the direct path of the storm.  My bronchitis is slowly improving.

Our son has been seizure-free for three years now.  In March he came off his medication.  On Friday, he had another seizure.  It was short, unlike the first one.  This impacts us in many ways, obviously, but overall we can just be thankful for God's presence, power, and protection through all of this.  We do not need to know what the future holds, but we also do not need to live in fear.

And to educate you a bit, please remember that not all seizures appear as convulsions, though some do.  Some are a blank stare.  Others are evidenced in not being able to respond.  Some have a repetitive behavior.  Any time you witness a seizure, pay close attention to what the person is doing with his hands and eyes.  Brother was vigorously rubbing the carpet with one hand.  It appeared that he was looking out of the sides of his eyes, but he could not respond by looking at me or speaking.  It was a complex-partial seizure.

We have much to be thankful for with all of this.  The largest impact I can think of is that now we know that the first seizure was not a fluke.  We also know that not all of Brother's seizures will be life (and brain/mind) threatening.  He has returned to taking medication to help prevent future seizures.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
~ Psalm 139:14

Oh, yes, I do believe that Brother is perfectly made just as he is.  God created him, including the seizure activity in his brain!

You can read about the initial seizure here.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear of this second seizure. I can imagine that was frightening and discouraging to think this will be an ongoing problem. I hope the meds will help keep them at bay.
