Not My Wisdom

The Sunday school topic was how we, as a church (especially in the local church), should create a culture where we can turn to one another for advice, help, mentoring, and counsel and actually be given biblical and godly advice.  Too often our friends and even leaders with good intentions instruct us with bad advice.  It is bad advice because it counters what God has to say.
It does not matter if we glean the advice we give from a talk show host or a book from a Christian author.  What matters is if it is the "wisdom" of men or true wisdom from God.  Books definitely help me apply God's Word, but just because a book is published by a Christian publisher or sold in a Christian book store does not mean that it holds the same authority.  I do not want to be misled by a book or teacher or friend...nor do I want to be that friend or teacher or blogger who misleads...which is why I must continue to read the Bible!  I began considering those who influence me and those I influence.
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.     ~ 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV, 1984)
I greatly appreciate my church family and especially the leadership.  I appreciate the folks with whom I have built relationships.  I also appreciate you, Reader.  You may not be part of my church family or circle of friends (but you may be!), but I have known some of you in this blogging world for years.  I am grateful for the way you keep my mind sharp and keep me focused on what is important while providing a writing and creative outlet.  My goal here is to be a friend, hopefully a wise friend, who is able to share openly and honestly about our home and family, and ideally benefiting you, Reader, too.

Thank you for reading my little corner of the blogging world.  I really enjoy sharing (in real life and by blogging)  my thoughts on life and what works for my family in my own home.  I want it to be through God's power and not my wisdom that I am able to serve my family in my home...and provide a resource and ideas for you, Reader, in This Simple Home.

This is linked to Word Filled Wednesday and Proverbs 31 Thursday.

  1. I have enjoyed knowing you, part of my church family and ladies Bible study. I enjoy reading your blogs and getting to know your family. I appreciate the leadership of our church, as you do. I too want to be careful what I read and listen to. I also pray I am an encouragement to my blog readers, especially in spiritual things. Acts 17:11b (KJV) "...they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
